Apple's iCloud start, to the rocky start for some

Apple's iCloud Launch Off to Rocky Start for SomeApple

Happy iCloud, or day, or perhaps even day to come, for those of you problems, the darn thing to work. Apple's iCloud technical addition to iOS 5 started yesterday afternoon, but some of them seem one heck of a time unlock to have silver lining.

What kind of Apple update finds great without a few technical errors? According to Giancarlo Esposito in mind - blowing season finale of breaking bad, to update any kind of Apple.

The irony: Steve Jobs spent most of this year's WWDC talk to iCloud and claimed that "it just works everything." He was followed by a comedy gold "you could say" why should I believe? They're the ones the me MobileMe'. "The MobileMe launch was a mess, or jobs words:"It was not our finest hour.""

(More: it is out: Apple iOS 5 (and above) now to the download)

iCloud, or the third iteration of Apple.Mac Sync and storage online service Apple's finest will be hour originally in 2002,. It is on the company answer "how I all my devices keep synchronized without actually doing anything?" You create, iCloud clerk, transfer and redistribution stores as an invisible file automatically and seamlessly. And so far, who managed to make it work, it seems to do just that.

But it is not for the cautious. For starters, introducing only the software components to trigger that suck the logon hours a massive iOS 5 update can do, or another, is the over a gigabyte for OS X Macs. If yesterday, that how to encrypt the entire Apple verse, trying to grab the latest Cupertino freebie, probably you took most of the afternoon or long in the evening went. You had the experience that has my colleagues Techland, you had tried several times, such as the process sporadic canceled.

I was 50% more luck. My installation of iOS went without a hitch 5 (although I failed to synchronize my local content, so losing a few choice photos from the last Beirut concert to Apple's image wipe - chalk it up to "user device error") but the OS X update on my current-gen MacBook Air posted only moments after the installation started. After almost an hour wait, mid-install Cancel to hate, I finally my computer of abgedrängt, restarted, then the update to take it (it finally did).

From this point you are walked through a relatively simple application, trading places with iCloud, culminating in MobileMe or mostly anyway. The MobileMe icon still there under system settings, but just click is a series of "Your MobileMe account has been upgraded to iCloud" messages. The tab "iDisk" still works, but I'm not sure why share not only the MobileMe icon for an iDisk one Apple.

Apple is getting picky about your logon ID when you access your iCloud data via a browser. Visit the snazzy new iCloud homepage and use your e-Mail address, rather than just your ID (that is, your e-Mail address is your ID). Try your old ID without "@"-tags, and Apple, you tried to "Apple ID update required" page to send (which by the way, until a "the requested application was not found on this server" errors this morning throws).

But - and Steve Jobs certainly knew this - nothing really "just works." The need for sharpeners pencils. Therefore, you will find how many Apple users as excited, angry, when you drag you Twitter and search for "iCloud."

"Someone all your contacts lose if to iCloud sync on their IOS switching?", wrote Twitter user Jeremiahherbert.

"Someone else get the error message that says that my email not checked with iCloud is and check my mail." I have no email from Apple, "Twitter user Thespacedmonkey wrote (and the answer, Yes, my brother had this same problem last night)."

"so far iOS 5 update failure: iCloud backup, e-Mail synchronization," complained Twitter user mik3cap.

"iOS 5 and iCloud not Apple's finest hour, start", Twitter user of Marco bar rios said.

And then you don't have the holdouts on Lion still yet: "I want to iCloud worked with Mac operating systems." I'm still on Leopard, "wrote Twitter user of Iheartpolrbears."

Or the attention of those not yet: "iOS 5 idk which is iCloud is pretty awesome, but!", wrote Twitter user NoelFord.

Me, I'm just glad that yesterday over and hopefully Apple's scramble their servers back to something like stability. It was a frustrating last month or two, with the pre-iCloud-in connection with MobileMe Server glitching.

GUY RAZ, host: NPR news, this is all viewed. I am guy Raz.

Good bye, Qwikster. We hardly knew you. Netflix today announced that she will drop their plan for their DVD and streaming services. Qwikster was announced less than a month ago.

And became NPR's Ted Robbins reports, it has in addition to universal contempt included.

TED ROBBINS: You have a problem, if one negative site comments, e-Mails and blog posts. You can pretty much sure that you have a big mistake when "Saturday Night Live", takes you to be.

(SOUNDBITE SHOW, "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE")

JASON SUDEIKIS: (as of Reed Hastings) Hello. I'm Reed Hastings, CEO and co-founder of Netflix.

FRED ARMISEN: (as Andy Rendich) and I am Andy Rendich. I head up-DVD rental for Netflix.

SUDEIKIS: (as of Reed Hastings) UH-huh. We knew that she loved Netflix, because it was the film a user-friendly website for all your needs. To make it better, we have divided it slightly more confusing pages into two separate.

ROBBINS: Netflix streaming video and Qwikster for DVD rentals. This part was in reality. Then grip of the SNL skit Netflix with the words: it was divided into three new sites, then merged with a nut company and insurance, Aflac, the a duck used for their speakers.

(SOUNDBITE SHOW, "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE")

SUDEIKIS: (as of Reed Hastings) announcement of the merger of Quaken of first and Nutflix. Welcome to Groove Quak-Qwikster.

ROBBINS: Netflix breach of a cardinal obligation marketing. Make it more difficult for your customers to get your product.

STEVE SWASEY: We completely underestimated the appeal of the simplicity of the Netflix website.

ROBBINS: Steve Swasey is Netflix of spokesman for.

SWASEY: It will remain so, as it all together you know. Both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs by post wants a website, a character in an account, a set of reviews, a simple service for all Netflix.

ROBBINS: A price increase announced this summer remains. Customers now are $8 per month of streaming video and DVD in comparison with the old low price of $10 per month for both figures.

Netflix lost one million customers are in the United States which increased prices, even if, like Steve Swasey customers that Netflix understood prices to cover the rising costs of the acquisition of content and mailing DVDs to increase.

SWASEY: The most reasonable people understand that, but we no good job, communication and explains that.

ROBBINS: while US customers lose, Netflix one million customers won if it has extended its streaming water business in Canada last year and it just started, the streaming business in Latin America offers. The United States are the only place that offers the Netflix DVDs by mail.

Andy Hargreaves, analyst with Pacific Crest securities, thinks that the decision to Qwikster kill the right decision is. PR problem caused by the error is another issue.

ANDY HARGREAVES: The problem is, this is a management team, which was for a long time, as in able to do no wrong and way perceived the smartest guys in the room, and I think the image is getting clouded in any case.

ROBBINS: Hargreaves says that Netflix offers many content for customers at a reasonable price. It soon will lose Starz movies, it wins DreamWorks Animation. He likes the company yet.

HARGREAVES: You know, as long as they no longer bad decisions to make, I think that they can sort of back on the horse, to speak so get, but it takes a while. I mean, they've definitely done brand damage.

ROBBINS: Tony Wible thinks that it is more than just image damage. He is an analyst with Janney capital markets. He calls Netflix AOL streaming, predictions that it will slowly fade to expand online streaming competitors such as HBO, Hulu, Apple and Amazon.

TONY WIBLE: Netflix is the first person to walk through the door, but they are certainly not the last. And the people who now start, have received services to spend billions and billions of dollars in its balance sheet.

ROBBINS: There will be a fight over the next years for company acquires the rights for movies and TV shows. But today, not you in the position to you by Qwikster, an idea which time never came.
