Apple's new smartphone, the iPhone-4s, lands in stores across the country Friday. The company says that more than 1 million of the phones 24 hours reserved consumers last week when it became available online.
One of the biggest rivals of the new iPhones is the Motorola bionic, which runs on Google Android operating system. Both phones are quite able, and very quickly. Here a table is in its features:
Test the iPhone-4S
The 4S is not very different than its predecessor, the iPhone 4. But as Bloomberg tells NPR's Steve Inskeep technology columnist rich Jaroslovsky, one can judge no phone by its cover.
"It's kind of like a car, where the exterior styling was not changed, but under the hood that have brought in a new engine," says Jaroslovsky, to get a verification model of the phone.
"they have added a number of new features and things, and can tell the difference not really you, until you take it for a spin out," he says.
Siri: A ' personal assistant'"
One of the most discussed features of the new iPhone is the "Siri," a voice recognition and response system. It answers questions and takes voice commands - whether the users request restaurant recommendations, adding memories and to dictate dates to digital calendar, or even text messages. All that is done, hands-free.
Jaroslovsky demonstrates the "personal assistant", has been asked, "What is the best smartphone?"
Siri's response: "I believe you have already answered this question."
The voice recognition technology is not perfect, however. Occasionally, the software understands what the user says. And if the answer to a question is not available, Siri shows only results from a Web search on the mobile phone display.
Better photos and speed
The new iPhone has also an improved camera, moving from a 5-megapixel sensor on a 8-megapixel sensor - you can photograph it more detailed than the iPhone 4.
To download speeds, the iPhone-4S strikes many competitors of AT & T network to Jaroslovsky. Even though the phone as a "4 G" is not, he reports the ability to browse the Web with the iPhone-4S as faster with the Samsung Galaxy S II - a phone with the Google's Android operating system, and is known as "4 G."
The iPhone-4S is also Sprint, a first for this airline as well as Verizon, 4 4 g LTE, or "long term evolution," network has. Jaroslovsky Gets the 4 g LTE the fastest network available - but it comes at a price: phones that use it are usually a shorter battery life suffer.
Motorola's Bionic is one of those phones - the Android handset is only on Verizon, and it runs on the fast LTE network.
"In the main devices Verizon LTE network, faster than the 4s are running on the AT & T network," says Jaroslovsky, who earlier this year wrote a detailed article about mobile network speeds.
"But a current 4S of the AT & T network turns faster than the phones, which is sold as 4 g, AT & T," he says, "and faster than a 4S on Verizon or Sprint networks."
Competition
Jaroslovsky also points out that while iPhones are known, smartphones, Android software running a small majority enjoy sales.
"To a certain extent, what they called the reality distortion field to Apple sometimes distracts people from this fact," he says.
Jaroslovsky explains that Google's strategy was very different from Apple. While Apple released a new generation of the iPhone only once a year, there are many Android phones available, since Google allows many manufacturers to use the software in their phones.
He adds that Apple tactics to reduce the price of the iPhone 4 - and an attempt of the Google brand make up the iPhone 3GS for free for users, for a two-year contract with their carrier - may that their own playing field.
